Marie lives in Colorado. She’s a fan of just about anything that involves muscular young men piling on top of each other. In particular, she loves the Denver Broncos and enjoys going to the games with her husband. Her imaginary friends often tag along. Marie has one daughter, two cats, and one dog, all of whom seem bent on destroying what remains of her sanity. She loves them anyway.

Wonderful (mild spoilers)

This has to be one of Marie's best books I've read so far. The sexual tension is always fun, and makes it so much better when they actually get together. Levi does a wonderful job at bringing Jamie out of his shell. One of the good things about this book is that Jamie never comes right out and says what happened to him... the reader can kind of guess it, but as a victim, Jamie can never bring it out into words what happened. This affects the outcome of the book at the end, where most people are used to getting a hot sex scene... but it helps the book to be great towards the end that Jamie and Levi never have full anal intercourse. It just would be too soon, still. One thing that does bother me is Levi does get a little religiously pushy towards the end, but it does help Jamie when he says "God knows what's in your heart," and so on. The religion has a nice play into the book, even though religious books aren't my favorite. Props to Marie for going into the mine field of Mormon family and coming to terms with sexuality... Though I will never, ever be attending a "Binder Confab" lol.

Another great read from Marie

From the beginning I was hooked and as I kept reading I realized this was one of the best emotional books I've read in awhile. The way Levi grew up and realized he wanted to put someone else's happiness before his own was wonderful to read. I also liked the scenes between Levi and his family as they started to come to terms w/ Levi and his choices in life. The scene between Levi, Jaime and Abraham @ the end brought tears to my eyes...a good thing. Also the love and faith Jaime showed to Levi showed how when you truly believe that your partner loves you you can do anything. If you're doubting whether to buy this book don't doubt buy it. I promise you won't regret it. I know I didn't!

Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton

Between Sinners and Saints was surprisingly sweet and romantic, and I didn't expect that considering the sensitive issue it was dealing with, i.e. the abuse to a child suffered by the hand of a relative.
Of the two men involved, Levi is probably the one who got it easier; through, he had to leave his family, but not since he was disowned: he is from a very conservative Mormon family, who loves him but cannot condone his "lifestyle" (read being gay). His parents, his brothers and sisters, understand it was not a choice that he was born gay, but according to them, he should try to "fight" it, and if he couldn't bring himself to marry a woman, at least he should be celibate. Instead Levi is living in sin, working as bartender, drinking and having sex with strangers; little by little, above all since Levi, even if always fighting, has a strong bond with his own family, the reader understand that Levi is rebelling against the constrictions his relatives want to impose him, but deep down, he has not denied their beliefs and religion.
By chance Levi meets Jaime, a young and kind man with deep scars inside and out. Without many words, Levi understands Jaime was abused when he was only a child, and now he is emotionally "blocked". Jaime has sexual desires but he is not able to act upon them; in this situation, there is no chance he can have casual sex with complete strangers, he needs someone he can totally trust, without exception. Apparently Levi is not that man, but he falls in love with Jaime, and he would do everything to be worthy of the trust.
I like that the author was not vague about the abuse Jaime suffered, but at the same time she didn't go all emotional on it. She gave the right amount of details to the reader so that we understand how tragic it was for Jaime, but she also concentrated more on the chances Jaime has to overcome his past. Even if Jaime is apparently sweet and fragile, the reader understands he has an inner strength that will allow him to overcome his fears.
Another side of the novel I think was well researched and presented is the relationship of Levi with the Mormon religion; in the end, the Mormon culture comes out a winner from this story, truth, highlighting its limitation, but all in all highlighting also how the family is centre stage, and how they can be supporting and welcoming. I think this was the first time I had such a positive insight on Mormon culture, even on the small details like the no-coffee rule.
