Lost Memories, by Laura Pascucci

For as long as Rose Hart can remember she has felt like an outcast in her own life. It is the secret that she hides from everyone that makes her feel this way. Rose has the ability to experience other people's memories. She sees what they see, feels what they feel, but no one around sees or feels what she does. She never knows when she might encounter a memory. Because of this she shies away from others.
Rose never willingly tried to experience anyone's memory. That was until the summer of her sophomore year of high school. An old abandoned house in her town was set to be torn down. Rose always wondered what life was like living there many years ago. She dreamed of experiencing grand balls and lively parties, maybe even a beautiful wedding. But what she didn't count on was the memory she does encounter, the horrifying murder of a young girl in the basement.
It is during one of her visits to the house that Rose meets a boy named Chuck. She is instantly attracted to him. But what she can't believe is that he feels the same for her. Because she sees herself as being odd, she has walled her heart off, opening it up for fear of rejection. It's Chuck who piece by piece tries to break away the wall that surrounds her lonely heart.

Visions of love--and death--combine for a gripping story
By Nikki Bennett
Teens, especially girls, will enjoy this book. A love story with paranormal stuff thrown in--what's not to like?

I enjoyed the visions Rosie experiences. Some visions I wish had more of a follow-up story, but the main vision Pascucci focuses on is the murder, and this she explores with a scary, heart-pounding coldness. I really got a feel for how evil the murder was, and this was followed up with great tension when Rose finally confronts the murderer in the flesh, near the end of the book.

The writing is very well done in places, but could use some editing in other spots. Some longish passages could probably be cut from the story and not affect the outcome. But the story is solid and has a satisfying ending.

Girl readers especially will enjoy the love story in Lost Memories. Pascucci does a great job highlighting the contrasts between Rosie's and Chuck's romance and the doomed romance of the murdered girl and her boyfriend. On one hand, you have a caring, nurturing boy bringing a shy, stand-offish girl out of her shell. On the other, a beautiful, vivacious girl who picks the wrong boy to love. This theme will resonate with the book's readers and provides a suspensful and truthful glimpse into the ups and downs of young love.

Pretty good
By Kim Kokko
Wasn't great and wasn't bad. Geared toward younger people, like high school age. I have to say, I've never read a book with so many spelling and punctuation errors.

YA romance and suspense!
By Lisa
The book was fabulous... The premise of being able to travel through dead memories to the past is a wonderful take on the paranormal.
The characters were well developed and each added a part to the story without being just a space filler.
Rosie is a great girl. I like that she is a loner. She's strong, adventurous and independent. Chuck is the kind of guy every girl wants - handsome, sweet and caring.
I like that their relationship progresses to romance through friendship and doesn't get "heavy"...
Johnny Jones is the evil antagonist that eventually gets what he deserves.
The relationships in the book are wonderful as you see life thru the ages that have been lived in the relic home. Love found, lost, death and murder - Laura Pascucci does a wonderful job telling their stories and weaving the the suspense.
