Advanced work for serious players

I bought this book as an introduction to continuo on the lute. Unfortunately for me I am very much a novice player and most of the book is beyond my grasp. I do find some of the information helpful, and I hope that by continuing to play I will better understand the material in a few months, or years.

This is probably the best resource for learning continuo on the lute family. Be prepared for a lot of hard work, though. Continuo is not learned in a few weeks.

Like student of Continuo I find this book such a great help to start study on this subject. There are so many manuscripts and facsimiles avaible, but This method works like a good collection and synthesis of many ideas.
The shipped and delivery works excellent too.

The perfect book for getting started with ESP8266, nodemcu, and lua

I've been very curious about the ESP8266, and I started looking at it over Thanksgiving week. I scoured the internet for information on getting started, but the content is all over the place in bits and pieces and in some cases out-of-date. I took a gamble on this book, and it was exactly what I needed to get started with EsP8266, nodemcu, and lua with a minimal amount of fuss. The explanations were thorough enough, and the example code helps you be productive faster. If you are getting started with ESP8266, I would strongly recommend this book.

“Building an IoT Node for less than 15 $” is the book I wish I had had when I started my endeavor into the IoT/ESP8266/NodeMCU world in May 2015. I covers everything you need to know to get you started even if you don’t have a any prior experience in electronics or low-level programming (firmware, C/C++ etc.). It teaches you a bit about the chip and modules equipped with it, gives you a Lua primer and contains lots of helpful examples.

About the Author

Andrea Biswas-Tortajada is a Research Fellow at the Third World Centre for Water Management in Mexico. She has also worked for the Water Supply Department in Gujarat, India and for the United Nations Development Programme in Geneva.

Asit K. Biswas is Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. A recipient of the Stockholm Water Prize and named by Reuters as one of the top 10 water trailblazers of the world, his work has been translated into 37 languages.

The social and economic importance of coffee in Colombia is analyzed with a political economy perspective in this book. The Creating Shared Value concept implemented by Nestlé and allies, is presented in an applied way, allowing a better understanding of the scope and limitations of the concept in the context of "complexity" described for coffee guild in Colombia.

I like the way the authors make a comprehensive review of the issues on the agenda for the discussion of coffee production future, making important arguments to generate a serious debate on the challenges and decisions facing the coffee sector in Colombia to meet the needs of social change for the benefit of producers and the whole supply chain.

In this analysis, there is an interesting balance of tasks from coffee farmer level and the challenges to be business oriented and more productive, support services, the role of the market as well as the importance of long term public policies. The kind of actions needed for building social capital, for having a clearer approach to the concept of sustainable coffee and generate prosperity in a sector dominated by small producers, requires a high dose of innovation, policy decisions and foremost the ability to work collaboratively between stakeholder.

About the Author

Mark Benedict is the Senior Associate for Strategic Conservation and the Senior Advisor for the Conservation Leadership Network at the Conservation Fund. He has his Ph.D. in botany/plant ecology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Ed McMahon is vice president and director of land use planning for The Conservation Fund and co-author of  Balancing Nature and Commerce in Gateway Communities (Island Press 1997).

The Conservation Fund, a national nonprofit organization, acts to protect the nation's legacy of land and water resources in partnership with other organizations, public agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. Since its founding in 1985, the Fund has helped its partners safeguard wildlife habitat, working landscapes, community greenspace and historic sites totaling more than 3.4 million acres throughout the nation. a magical re-telling

My Name is Rapunzel is a very magical and nicely told re-telling of Rapunzel. I have not read too many fairy tale re-tellings, but funnily enough most of the re-tellings that I have read and seen have been about Rapunzel. I am not really sure why. Tangled for instance is a super cute disney movie about Rapunzel, and in that version she was the long lost daughter of a king and queen. In My Name is Rapunzel, the opposite is true. Rapunzel is in love with the son of the king, and just as they were about to start their lives together, a witch cursed them. All over that golden hair of hers. The witch cursed Rapunzel with immortality so that she would always have access to her hair and she made henry, Rapunzel’s love, disappear.

The book alternates between the past and present. It starts out in the past when she is going to run away and start a life with Henry and after a few chapters it switches to the present day. It continues to alternate between Rapunzel telling her past and the present until the two times merge into one. Rapunzel is telling her story to a newspaper writer that doesn’t believe in fairy tales. Rapunzel has been kept away from the rest of society for so long that when she read an article about fairytales from him she finally snapped. I felt really bad for Rapunzel, throughout the whole story you could really feel her isolation and how sad it made her. Every time she got close to someone or had some sort of friend or family, they were taken from her. It must be such a lonely existence. But at least she had her dragon looking over her. Yep, I said a dragon. My Name is Rapunzel has all the classic makings of a good fairy tale- magic, a crazy old witch, a curse, and even a dragon.

I loved the detail in My Name is Rapunzel. K.C. Hilton did a great job filling in the gaps in Rapunzels story and telling everything about her life. I loved her version of the tale. And I loved the vivid detail that the castle was described in. Rapunzel spent a lot of time inside, since she was banned from going into the village for so long, so she explored every inch of the castle. One of my favorite things was the secret underground garden that she discovered. It was extra little scenes like this that made me really enjoy My Name is Rapunzel. There were plenty of twists and turns too. Some of them were predictable, but more than a few took me by complete surprise. If you are a fan of re-tellings, you should really check out My Name is Rapunzel. It’s a magical and fun story.

Get ready for Rapunzel as you've never seen before.

Rapunzel has been cursed with the gift of immortality, always appearing as a young girl of 18. On the evening that she was cursed, a horrible witch Gretta also took away her true love Henry. For over 200 years Rapunzel lives in solitude and morns the loss of Henry and the life that she was supposed to have. She is watched over by a dragon whose reign will not allow her to escape.

As the years go by, Rapunzel learns to leave behind her old ways and starts to modernize her home. She finds small comfort in her hidden garden around her castle and in the ability to be anonymous over the internet. One day she reads an article in her local newspaper from a man named John Jenkins, which denotes and denies the myths of fairy tales. Stating that if he ever met Rapunzel he would ask her to chop off her hair and donate it. This sets off a fire in Rapunzel which sends her on a path to tell her story to John, so that at least one person knows the truth of what she has lived through, unable to die.

I have read countless fairy tale retelling stories, however this is my first one featuring Rapunzel. I really enjoyed this version. Rapunzel isn’t the adventurous girl that Disney has portrayed. She is forced to stay with the witch Gretta that cursed her in hopes of finding a way to reverse what has happened to her. The author KC Hilton has written a magnificent magical story. While the first half of the book was sad, filled with the hardships that Rapunzel had to endure, the second half really picks up as Rapunzel finds a new friendship and maybe even more in the snotty reporter John Jenkins. I was hanging on by a thread as the conclusion came and all was revealed. I will say that I loved the ending! If you love fairy tale retellings then go and buy this book now!

Great Idea, really poorly written

You can tell this is a self-published book.
I read the first chapter before I bought it and it really intrigued me. It was a great idea for a story. The first chapter made me care about the character, and created questions I wanted answered. However, it didn't carry over into the rest of the book.
We read this as a book club, and most of us were really displeased. A few were able to look past the glaring flaws and just enjoy it for it was. However, all of us agreed on one point. The retelling of the entire story in letter form (practically copy and paste) in the middle of the book was super annoying and boring. A publisher would have never let that fly, considering even flashbacks are somewhat frowned upon. It really took you out of the momentum of the story, so much that I couldn't get into it afterwards.
I also personally, found the character to have pretty much no personality, and hated the constant way the character asked herself questions. That can be great once in a while, but every paragraph? Twenty a page? Not a great writing technique.
Could have been great if this had been edited by someone who knows what makes a novel tick, not just checked for grammar errors.

Packed with Information, Riddled with Typos and Omissions

I have been using this text in a wastewater engineering course. It covers the different aspects of wastewater engineering well, providing in depth treatments of each. However, the great size of this book (over 1800 pages) may also be its weakness, making it an unmanageable project for the editors.

In one month of usage, I have found serious gaps in the problems. Many cross-references are incorrect, and there are some problems which omit values required for solution.

In short, this is a good source of information. With closer editing, it could be better.

About the Author
Yotam Ottolenghi arrived in the UK from his native Israel in 1997 and set out on a new career in food, after having completed an MA in Comparative Literature whilst working as a journalist in Tel Aviv.

In London he attended The Cordon Bleu after which he worked as a pastry chef in various establishments. In 2002, Yotam and his partners set up Ottolenghi, a unique food shop offering a wide range of freshly made savory dishes, baked products and patisserie items. There are now four Ottolenghi's, as well as NOPI, a brasserie style restaurant in Soho, London.

Since 2006 Ottolenghi has written a column in The Guardian's Weekend Saturday magazine. He is the author of the New York Times bestselling books Plenty, Jerusalem, and Ottolenghi.

SAMI TAMIMI is a partner and head chef at Ottolenghi. Their 2012 Cookbook, Jerusalem, was a New York Times bestseller and was awarded Cookbook of the Year by the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Ottolenghi scores big with "Ottolenghi"

My admiration for this author/chef knows no limits. Really. I've been cooking out of Ottolenghi's "Plenty" cookbook for the past year or so at least twice a week and it's changed the family's eating habits and appreciation of good taste astronomically. So when this newly published cookbook (from the restaurant menu) was published in the U.S., I was interested. At the same time, I wondered how the newbie could improve and/or expand on the author's two previous (and terrific) books. I shouldn't have been the least bit skeptical. "Ottolenghi" is even better than its predecessors and chock-a-block full of great new food.

I come to this opinion from the perspective of someone who cooks almost exclusively vegetarian dishes. "Ottolenghi" is about two-thirds non-meat in content. Lots of terrific new vegetable entrees and sides, with the usual emphasis on freshness, herbs, nuts and Middle East/Mediterranean spices. What's really new in the author's approach in this cookbook is a generous section on desserts (most of them adaptations of classics) and many recipes for sauces that can be used with a lot of different entrees or as dips, spreads, etc.

I'm just getting started in using this new book--and in fact started with dessert! How does chocolate chestnut bar sound? A kind of exotic brownie, but richer and creamier than the traditional approach. Killer taste. The same chapter includes a fine recipe for a more traditional brownie, but clearly better, judging from the ingredients.

I'm a total fan of this guy and his books and have been giving them as gifts for the past year. I even gave one to a Moroccan friend who is a wonderful cook, but who became an instant admirer and regular user of Ottolengthi's "Plenty". So get the new one or at least one of the earlier books--it/they will change your life.

I have so many cookbooks some might see it as ridiculous I buy yet another...but this one is really quite special. This book is very inspiring. Nice pictures, they really bring the dishes to life. However, it's the inventive, thoughtful combination of ingredients that just blow me away. Seriously, I just look at the picture of the green bean and pea dish and 20 other variations pop in my head. I am not a recipe follower too often, mostly I just read and then start chopping whatever is in the kitchen. I heartily recommend it even though I have barely read through 15 pages. The authors are VERY specific in their cooking directions in a really good way. They also like their veggies a bit on the crunchy side for our family's taste, but that is simple to change. I wish it was in paperback so it was easier to read in bed.

Great recipes, could have been more user friendly.

I am a fan of Ottolenghi recipes. I follow their Guardian column 'The New Vegetarian'. I find their recipes fresh, modern, bright and fun. So far I have tried couple of eggplant recipes, pistachio cookies and baked okra. All came out great. Their recipes in Guardian-online are fun as well.
Having said that, I wish they had serving suggestions in this book for recipes. It would also help to have some sample menus, specially for someone new to Mediterranean cooking.
I live in US and as such the book is cumbersome to use because of metric system used throughout. I don't mind that much, but it would have been nice to include a conversion table somewhere. Hopefully, there will be a US edition soon, but I could not wait for it to come out.
The book is beautifully laid out and the pictures are very tempting.
Overall, I like the book a lot.
