Great formating but look at the price

Yet ANOTHER publisher that SHOULD be ashamed of themselves. This time we have an amazingly good format of a book. It's sweet. Check out the preview. Italics, bold... looks great. BUT look at the price. $86??? For an EBOOK? I'd pay that for a physical book for resale value... but NOT an ebook. who would? Consider that the physical hardback is selling for less: $81.

What is wrong with this publisher? Protest.

Thank God Amazon allowed a refund on my mistaken purchase of the product.

About the Author

JOHN PAUL LOWE began teaching at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2002. He has served as the school’s chair of the Sequential Art Department and as dean of the School of Communication Arts. In 2013, he happily returned to the classroom and his art studio. His career in comics began in 1991 with DC Comics. Lowe has also worked for Marvel Comics, Image Comics, Archie Comics, and Dark Horse Comics. Lowe is the creator of the award-winning annual Sequential Arts Anthology, and the author of Working Methods: Creators Detail their Storytelling and Artistic Processes.

FOREWORD

One of the saddest lessons you will learn when you go to art school is that your art is not very good. One day in sophomore year you will look down at your Dali-inspired colored pencil drawing of anthropomorphic lizards, and you won’t be able to ignore it any longer. You’ll look up at your professor and see it in her eyes: she thinks you’re a bad artist. She thinks you’re a bad artist, and she doesn’t think you’re ever going to get better. 
“Very creative,” she’ll say. 
“Thanks,” you’ll say.
John Lowe thinks you can get better. In fact, he’s sure you can get better. He’s sure you can get good.

This is what makes John Lowe a great teacher and an unusual one. If you are his student, he is interested in you and he is interested in your art. He finds out what your goals are, and he doesn’t let you forget them. He finds out what your comfort zone is, and he jabs and teases you out of it. He finds out what tools you’re used to using, and he doesn’t let you use them anymore. He finds out how much homework you’re used to doing, and he assigns twice as much. He takes artwork you were up all night working on and tells you to change everything. He tells you to change everything, and you squawk in disbelief, and John laughs and say, “Nothing’s precious.”

And it’s true: nothing you put on paper is precious. You have something else that’s precious, and it’s something John will find for you when you can’t find it yourself anymore. It’s why you started drawing in the first place. It’s in your hand, your eyes, your heart. Don’t lose it. Don’t let it get away.

A Very Thorough Book about Foundation in Comic Book Art

I was very fortunate to have John Lowe as my professor in a several classes in SCAD. In this book, John Lowe explains everything as it is, very clear and straight forward --with his own and students' examples, how to's, and exercises, just like how he conducts his classes. I think it's interesting and important that he includes his and his students' works so the readers can see how other people approached the subject he teaches. It doesn't matter how many pages I have drawn, I find myself refer back to something in this book time to time. This book is timeless and just like how the book is to me, it will be one of those books you'd want to have around whether you're doing comics as a hobby or whether you want to do comics professionally.

Also, don't worry if English is not your first language, it isn't mine either --the book is still very easy to understand. The author divides the book into several chapters with increasing difficulties so as long as you don't skip chapters, you'll be fine :D.

As graduate of SCAD, I can honestly say this is the drawing book I wish I had growing up. Lowe takes you step-by-step through materials and techniques that are applicable not only to sequential artists, but any visual artist. A great book for any skill level looking to brush up on their foundations.

It's a Worthy Purchase

This book has been extremely popular in my house the last few days - with every member of the family flipping through the pages - not only enjoying the illustrations by John Paul Lowe but also the friendly manner he explains how to achieve results. For me, what I like best is his appreciation for individuality - he isn't teaching a robotic pattern to follow - but rather a careful set of basics that allow each of our inner voices to be expressed on paper. Now, those pale white sheets of paper and pointed pencils are now less intimidating to me. It all seems doable and achievable and a heap of fun.

The best place to start

I think this book is the best place to introduce finance to students. It has plenty insght from accounting to math. It has no rigour but it is okay for the beginners. For those who have had two or more courses on finance could try elsewhere. I highly recomend it for the beginners.

Readable intro. to standard finance theory

First: this book is certainly not worth [the price] ...I read the 1998 softcover 'preliminary edition' by Bodie and Merton, which I ordered and received from amazon.com in fall, 1999. Samuelson's name was not on the cover and at any rate should not cause the price of the book to increase... The current price makes the book unattractive. Now for my review of the softcover version:
This is a relatively well-written undergraduate-level text that can be read/understood without the need for classroom instruction. It is especially useful for self-study by ordinary people who know nothing at all about finance theory but are motivated to learn. The reader will find all of the main topics covered: cash flows, efficient market hypothesis, capital asset pricing model (CAPM), risk management, hedging, and options pricing at Black-Scholes (B-S) level of discussion. In the spirit of the simple level of the text, the B-S equation is applied but not derived (best derivation is still the second one, and the Black's original method starting from the CAPM, in the famous 1973 Black-Scholes paper). `Fat tails' (known and largely ignored since Mandelbrot, 1962) and non-risk-neutral hedges, the frontiers of modern finance theory, are not discussed. Throwing the traditional `financial-engineering' bone in the direction of fat tails, implied volatility is discussed because in practice fat tails can't any longer be ignored. All in all, the book is recommendable to physics grad. students who want to learn finance terminology along with the main (wrong) ideas believed by the finance theory community. As an example of the book's weaknesses, the authors assume that the vague, undefined notion of `fundamental value' makes sense, and that liquid markets are in some vague, undefined sense `efficient' although the notion of a relaxation time is never mentioned. Typical finance theorists' shortcomings aside, this book can profitably be read before (or at least parallel with) Hull and other harder texts on derivatives. Liars' Poker and Fiasco can also be read profitably in parallel with this book. No knowledge of neo-classical ('marginal utility') econ (as is excesively taught in Samuelson's standard text) is required, and is at any rate is useless for finance theory/practice.

the reading was kind of fun. Not because of the subjects touched

My first actions after finishing this book were.

Checking if there were books available before that one (yes I admit I do not check frequently on that stuff before – as I try to read without being tempted to read other reviews before)

And than jumping to amazon to get my own copy of the first two books

I think that says quite a lot about my opinion on this book …

Even if the nature of the story is rather serious, the reading was kind of fun. Not because of the subjects touched, but because of the writing. It was fluent and flawless and the story was well constructed. I know that I was missing a lot of the background to Sean’s character as I did not read the first two books, but honestly that did not matter so much. This book is so well designed that it can be read as a standalone if needed and it made me want to read the first two books. So it does not even matter that I know their outcome due to reading this book.

The author manages to captivate you in this tiny world out there in the woods and its only after you finish when you realize that you do not know really that much about the background of the characters or that it was actually almost a kind of instant love that “happened” to Grace and Sean. Which is a real good thing – because I have serious issues with instant love

Please let me recommend this author and this book to everybody who likes pure and honest romances as well as a good and solid writing style.

I am off now reading the first parts of this series #waves

Sweet, heartbreaing, and engaging story

Aaaah! If I hadn't already seen info about this book before reading the previous one, I'd have been a cranky reader. The previous story had a cliffhanger but happily it all works out.

There are two central conflicts between Sean and Grace. One is kids: Grace has them, Sean doesn't want any. It's lateish in the story before we find out why Sean is so resistant to having kids and I wish Poitevin had developed that more. The other conflict is that Grace is hiding something and Sean's cop instincts are roused. At one point he's worried that he'll have to arrest her. That could put a hitch in their relatioship. :D The whole story takes place over a week and it just seemed too fast. There was a lot happening and the time frame didn't work. Sean's change of heart about children, Grace's situation, their romance which was both slow burning and rapid, it all happened quickly.

The romance was sweet, the story behind Grace and the kids was heartbreaking, and I wanted Grace and Sean to get together but the relationship and events needed more time to play out. I liked the relationship between Grace and Sean, I liked how strong Grace was both emotionally and physically, she can rescue herself thank you very much, and I enjoyed the peek at Grace and Connor we get. I liked the story but had a hard time buying into how fast everything happens especially considering what the kids have been through. Both Grace and the kids have been on an emotional roller coaster so has Sean with his injury, and I think they all needed time to process and heal. Still, it's a tender story with humor, tension, romance, and action. I definitely prefer Poitevin's romances to her urban fantasy and I liked this one a lot.

From this humble premises God would light a spark that would fuel one of the biggest and most powerful revivals of the last two millennia. Interesting Look Into a Controversial Man

William Seymour has his supporters and his critics. His critics call him a mystic, a man who sought experiences his whole life. His supporters call him a man who was hungry for God, tired of dead and dry religion. He wanted Pentecost and he wanted a touch from God.

What can we learn from these short sermons that he preached at the Azusa Street revival in Los Angeles in 1906? First, we learn that Seymour clearly wanted people to go after Jesus. Like Frank Bartlemen, he didn't want Pentecost to replace Jesus. Secondly, he believed in two works of grace following salvation. This would be a believer must be saved then sanctified and then baptized in the Holy Spirit with the initial, physical evidence of speaking in tongues. Thirdly, he believed this Pentecostal revival would spread to the nations which it did.

Overall, interesting to read his sermons. While not deep in their content nor long, they reflect a heart that, while not theologically perfect, longed to glorify God in my opinion. I don't fully agree with Seymour on all that he taught but he seemed to have a heart for God from these sermons.

Wow!

What a treasure to have these messages! While they themselves would have us go further and deeper, the honor God Himself gave men and women like this speaks to the fact that we need to "honor our fathers and mothers." It is part of getting our spirit right before God. Asuza Street saw creative miracles. There was manifestation like over Israel - fire was on the rooftop, such that the fire department would come out. We need the humility of such faith, which overcomes the world, flesh, and devil. Where it challenges me and my intellect - that is just what is needed for more breakthrough.

It's a wonderful read of sermons from yester years gone by. Plea for Holiness and Sanctification. May we strive to obtain!

Hot, dark, and totally riveting

"Devoted" is a hardcore BDSM story about a submissive who is put to the ultimate test. Utterly devoted to her Master, the narrator tells a story of extreme submission, and of the consequences of her lack of compliance. After confessing her infractions, she is given a collection of discipline that may well send her over the edge. Every aspect of her trial is told in intimate detail, from the fear of hearing unknown voices to the pleasure of hearing her Master whisper "good girl". If she pleases him, he will continue to provide the leadership she needs to tap into her true submissive nature. If she fails...

It's hot, dark, and totally riveting. Grace shows serious skills here. The story is exquisitely written in a way that puts you into her mind as she endures discipline from four separate Masters. It is not for the faint of heart or the Fifty Shades vanilla dark crowd but if you have a true appreciation for BDSM then you'll love every page.

Very detailed BDSM

If you want a explicit (and well written) BDSM story this is for you.

The author takes what could have been a series of scenes and weaves them in nicely with the main character and her Council of Masters. Each one has a speciality and boy do they teach her a lesson.

Since it's first person you get a nice entry into her thoughts which adds nicely.

Definately a must read for fans of BDSM and sub/dom erotica.

Stiff Punishment

The has some very rough BDSM but I would not call it violence, just very rough. The submissive female goes before a counsel of 4 Masters plus her master and has to undergo some stiff punishment for disobedience..
