About the Author
Scott Freeman was a Professor of Economics at the University of Texas, Austin. He taught earlier at Boston College and the University of California, Santa Barbara. Professor Freeman died in 2004 after struggling with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for several years. Professor Freeman specialized in monetary theory, and his articles appeared in the Journal of Political Economy, the American Economic Review, the Journal of Monetary Economics and the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, among other eminent academic journals.

I highly recommend this book as a preview for the text and lecture. Don't rely on it to get you an A in class. Some of the definitions/explanations were not as clear as the book.

Introduction to Boolean Differential Calculus

This book is devoted to the Boolean Differential Calculus (BDC). The BDC extends the structure of a Boolean algebra. By means of the BDC properties of Boolean functions of Boolean variables can be examined.

Chapter 1 goes over basics of Boolean algebra and the notation used in this outline. Chapter 2 introduces Boolean derivative operations. Chapter 3 focuses on Boolean differential equations.

The solution of BDC equations and problems requires the usage of specific software. XBOOLE has been developed for this purpose and is able to solve problems with hundreds or even thousands of logic values. A free version of XBOOLE Monitor can be downloaded from the author's website.

In this book many examples are given. They explain how mathematical and numerical calculations can be made. However, the examples don't focus on practical applications of the BDC.

Although no specific previous knowledge is required to read this book, working through the material requires a commitment to understand more about the BDC. The BDC is not easy to understand.

I have an interest in Boolean functions, but from a cryptographic perspective. I won't go through the summary of the book, as the reader can find that out quickly using the Table of Contents, but I want to mention that I liked the style of the book. It contains many examples, a description of a piece of software that the authors developed (I downloaded that and played with it for a bit). I was aware of many concepts from this book by Steinbach and Posthoff on Boolean Differential Calculus, as we use them in Boolean combiners, but this book contains some of these in a leisurely pace and perhaps can be used even by researchers not working in this particular area.

Financial Reporting & Analysis Review

The book has problems with inadequate examples or information within the Chapter in order to complete the problems. Sometimes questions are asked about information that is not included in the chapter. I like books that serve as a reference and provide complete, comprehensive information with the Chapter problems and cases reinforcing concepts. The instructor was using the authors' slides and chapter tests and had to abandon this teaching method because everyone in the class was completely lost. Maybe you have to already have a Master's in Accounting to find it useful.

If this is the first book you've read about financial reporting then it's a great book. However, if you've already taken classes on this subject the book is just a repetition of other classes and other books I've taken and read.

Interesting read.

I have enjoyed reading 'Simplicity'. At times, the grammar was sloppy and words were used incorrectly, but the overall message was very good. You should read it just to say you have, but you probably won't read it a second time.

Romantic fiction at it's best! A Christian theme, showing the character and protection of God through trial and tribulations; with a conclusion that God will withhold no good thing from those who serve Him and seek His will for their lives. You'll quickly be caught up in the mind of the main character as she seeks God's will, not her will. Great read, buy it, in fact buy two and give one as a gift!
